I'm Not Ashamed to Like Hillary

The Huffington Post

I like Hillary.

There, I said it.

I'm tired of feeling like a pariah. Liking Bernie Sanders is cool. Liking Hillary Clinton is not.

Whenever I tell people I like Hillary, I'm met with incredulous stares and voices dripping with disgust. "Really?" they ask. "Why? How can you like her?" You'd think I confessed to killing puppies the way they carry on.

I'm then met with a litany of common refrains. "She lies. You can't trust her. Remember Benghazi?" Or my personal favorite, "She's a Clinton. Читать дальше...

This Aston Martin was so good we actually wanted to buy one

BusinessInsider.com

Hollis Johnson

Sometimes, a car just takes your breath away — in every imaginable way.

It's even better if this experience is totally unexpected.

This happened recently with our transportation team when we checked out an Aston Martin DB9 for a few days. The DB9 isn't exactly a new car — it's been around since 2003. The formula for this grand tourer is quite simple and involves two parts. Part one is a gigantic V12 engine stuffed under the hood. Part two is an abundance of suave, British tailoring. 409 refugees have died in Mediterranean in 2016

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

GENEVA — The International Organization for Migration says 409 people have died this year trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea, and refugee crossings in the first six weeks of 2016 are running at nearly 10 times the rate of the same period last year. Police spokesman Lars Bystrom says various weapons were found in cars during the arrests on Monday evening in Nynashamn, 35 miles south of Stockholm, but they didn’t include firearms. The arrests come amid increasing opposition to refugees and reports... Читать дальше...

Chinese Food Emojis? Chinese Food Emojis!

The Huffington Post

Do you like emojis? And Chinese food? Then 2017 might be your year.

Five new emojis have been selected as candidates for next year's Unicode 10.0, the standard which governs the special characters that appear on your devices. Four of them represent Chinese takeout staples, while the fifth is a "face with one eyebrow raised." (Perhaps indicating a tummy ache from too much lo mein?)

The Unicode Consortium announced the update in a blog post Tuesday. Emojipedia, a site devoted to all things emoji... Читать дальше...

Super Bowl 50 Advertising -- As Tweeted

The Huffington Post

I held my annual Twitter party #SuperBowlExp during the Super Bowl again this year, not to sweat out the game but to comment on all of the brand activity. We collectively rate the advertising and evaluate the marketing, and then take breaks when the game is actually in play!

Most years there is a universal theme or two that shines through, but I have to say that this year was much more of a mixed buffet. Nothing in particular stood out.

But my Twitter Party goers were vocal nonetheless. Читать дальше...

Fusion Just Might Be The Most Diverse Media Company Out There

International Business Times

The self-described millennial news operation Fusion has struggled to crack into the mainstream since its inception in 2013,  but one place the company surges ahead of its competitors is on the diversity front. Numbers obtained by International Business Times from a internal Fusion memo show that, in a field where most shops are majority white, only 40 percent of Fusion's staff self-identifies as Caucasian, both in its newsroom alone and across the company overall.

Ukraine Economic Crisis 2016: As IMF Loan Stalls, Young Politicians Struggle To Push Through Reforms

International Business Times

It’s already been a busy week for Nataliya Katser-Buchkovska. The young member of Ukraine’s parliament wrapped up a meeting at the United Nations on sustainable development Tuesday and was headed to Texas soon for an important energy summit. She wants to overhaul the notoriously corrupt energy sector in her country, where growing political uncertainty looms as the International Monetary Fund delays aid payments.

It was believed that the contract of Patriots running back Montee Ball expired on February 1. If it did, the team at some point re-signed him. Because on Tuesday the Patriots released his rights. The league’s transaction report for Tuesday shows that the Patriots waived Ball, who finished the season on the team’s practice squad.…

Vietnam vet sues VA trying to get benefits living in Cuba

Stars and Stripes

Otto Macias was 19 when he left Cuba in the throes of a socialist revolution, enlisted in the U.S. Army and went to fight communists as a machine-gunner in Vietnam. He returned from battle in 1969 — broken and suffering from post-traumatic stress and schizophrenia, his family says. After years of hospitalization in New York, Macias, then a U.S. citizen, was well enough in 1980 to fly to Cuba to visit relatives he hadn't seen in decades. He never returned.

America lost 2.4 million manufacturing jobs to Chinese outsourcing from 2001 to 2013, according to estimates by the nonpartisan Economic Policy Institute think tank.

But a new report that just emerged from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, predicts we will see robots eliminate 5.1 million jobs globally over the next five years.

Twice as many jobs as China took from us.

In half the time it took China to take them.

Gee, robots really are more efficient! Читать дальше...
