VW cashes in on nostalgia with 2016 Beetle Dune special edition

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

The handsome Dune, which should reach showrooms in a few weeks, is distinguished by its own bumpers, wheels, a large central air intake integrated with the bumper and various black exterior trim items. Bold black wheel arch extensions accentuate the Dune's raised ride height and are a nice styling touch, but we also like the practical benefit - they'll help prevent or minimize the havoc caused by careless people who swing doors open or let shopping carts run astray. "The new Dune successfully captures the iconic spirit of Baja Beetles... Читать дальше...

People are flocking to an unlikely destination this month: Death Valley.

Death Valley holds the world record for the hottest recorded temperature on Earth — in 1972, its ground temperatures reached 201 degrees Fahrenheit.

So, it's not an ideal vacation spot — or even a lunch spot — but this month people are making an exception.

Recently, the valley burst into a beautiful sea of gold and purple flowers that's unlike anything seen in over a decade... Читать дальше...

To My Fellow Students, There's More to Life Than Work

The Huffington Post

On the first day of classes at the Yale School of Management, we went around the room and shared our greatest life experiences in an icebreaker exercise. Many of the students my age talked about traveling or personal accomplishments. The older students -- both men and women -- were nearly unanimous in their responses: Either "The day I got married" or "The day I became a parent."

The younger students gasped.

In retrospect, before arriving at Yale, there had been times when I earnestly... Читать дальше...

Is Rio de Janeiro Safe?

The Huffington Post

Rio de Janeiro is the world's most alluring hot mess. It's everything you expect it to be: edgy, stratified, stiflingly humid, crowded, exhilarating. But it's also everything you don't expect it to be: friendly, relaxing, accessible, human, bucolic even.

That's what makes it such a special place -- the contrasts that are a microcosm of what makes Brazil tick: poverty and great wealth; forest and city; savage and sophisticate; old world and new.

But despite all the interesting things people could ask about my visits... Читать дальше...

Znaider and SF Symphony champion overlooked concerto

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

[...] before Thursday, Feb. 18’s remarkably powerful concert in Davies Symphony Hall, the San Francisco Symphony had never even played the piece. Why is a work like this — so inventive, so dramatic, so rich in incident — not a standard component in the arsenal of any violin virtuoso aspiring to the name? The harmonies are traditionally tonal, but their logic at times is not; and although the concerto unfolds in fairly cohesive chapters, the sequence of events within those sections can sometimes be surprising. Meet the 40-year-old Kansan behind the Hillary Clinton-knocking website

BusinessInsider.com

AP

Jed McChesney awoke Friday morning to find that his website had crashed. When he glanced up at MSNBC's "Morning Joe," he learned why: Bernie Sanders had tweeted it to his 1.5 million followers.

McChesney had made the site, iwilllookintoit.com, earlier this month, after hearing Hillary Clinton say those words in a Democratic presidential debate. That was her response when asked whether she would release transcripts of her paid speeches to Goldman Sachs and other big banks.

Clinton's speeches were on McChesney's mind. Читать дальше...
