Legislature passes bill to recruit more teachers

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

(AP) — The Washington Legislature on Thursday responded to a shortage of teachers in the state by passing a bill that would implement a number of measures to recruit new public school teachers. Another grant program in the bill would pay financial aid to some teachers enrolled in certain teacher preparation programs. According to the office's website, the emergency certificates are valid for two years and are used when a district "cannot find a certified teacher" in a specific area. Santos said... 3 Ways to Wash Away Worry

The Huffington Post

I have heard it said that "worrying is trading in today's peace for the possible woes of tomorrow" and I am inclined to agree with this assessment. It is a struggle to surrender the mind and the emotions to the fact that we simply do not have to power to change the things that we cannot change -- and so what exactly is it that we are worrying for? Our inability to do more than what we can do is a great cause of worry. My friend, consider the notion that you are not designed to carry the totality of life's heavy loads... Читать дальше...

CNN debate moderator Jake Tapper confronted Donald Trump on Thursday about his recent claim that "Islam hates us."

"Last night you told CNN, quote, 'Islam hates us.' Did you mean all 1.6 billion Muslims?" Tapper asked the Republican presidential frontrunner.

"I mean a lot of them. I mean a lot of them," Trump replied to applause.

"Do you want to clarify the comment at all?" Tapper inquired.

Trump said he wouldn't budge off his "Islam hates us" comment... Читать дальше...

Can Trump's Plan To Cut Fraud Save Social Security? Rubio Says 'Numbers Don't Add Up'

International Business Times

Businessman Donald Trump and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio seemed to be speaking different languages Thursday during the CNN Republican debate near Miami when discussing their plans to save Social Security. Trump said cutting "waste, fraud and abuse" in the U.S. government would be enough to keep Social Security solvent into the future without making significant changes. Rubio, on the other hand, championed raising the retirement age and said that in Trump’s plan, the “numbers don’t add up.”

Awkward: That Feeling You Get When Caught Staring at a Broken Friendship

The Huffington Post

I've heard my children, especially my 13-year-old daughter, employ the word "awkward" on a regular basis. For the most part, she -- along with her peers and her brothers -- has used one of the three acceptable usages of "awkward" accurately, albeit in excess for the last couple of years.

Recently, I said the word. It came right out of my mouth without thought or reflection, and "awkward" perfectly encapsulated the moment. But in the case of my employment of word, I hit on all three shades... Читать дальше...

The first Tesla model is actually too dirty for this country

In the United States, motorists who buy a new Tesla Model S are eligible for an array of federal and local tax breaks because the all-electric sedan is considered a zero-emissions car.

The story is different in Singapore, however, where the nation’s first Model S owner just found out his car is subject to heavy taxes because it’s lumped in the same category as some of the dirtiest new cars on the market.

One chart that shows how wrong Donald Trump is about the economy

Vox

Donald Trump doesn't have a positive view of the US economy. "GDP was 0 essentially for the last two quarters," Trump said at Thursday night's debate. "If that ever happened in China you would have had a depression like nobody has ever seen. They go down to 7 percent, 8 percent and it's a national tragedy. We're at zero. We've lost our jobs. We've lost everything. We're losing everything."
