Is the U building a case to fire Richard Pitino? 'I hope they want me to stay,' he says

«Star Tribune» (startribune.com)

Richard Pitino’s Gophers men’s basketball program is in a months-long skid, on and off the court, that has called into question his future in Minnesota. His team won just eight games in 2015-16, a season that ended with controversy after he suspended three players for their role in a graphic video posted on social media and kicked senior Carlos Morris off the team. Just in the past week, transfer Reggie Lynch was arrested and held in jail on probable cause for criminal sexual misconduct. He was released after not being charged... Читать дальше...

State schools superintendent won't run for governor

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

The two-term superintendent had been mulling a challenge to Democratic incumbent Jay Inslee and said he was "push button" ready to announce his candidacy as late as last week before eventually deciding against it. Dorn's main aim would have been meeting the state Supreme Court's 2012 McCleary decision on education funding, and he has criticized Inslee for his leadership in education funding. Though Dorn didn't endorse either gubernatorial candidate Thursday, he said he would bet on Inslee "having... Читать дальше...

Mariners sitting atop AL West as optimism grows

«Seattle Post-Intelligencer» (seattlepi.com)

Dipoto believed the Mariners could be revamped without spending heavily in free agency through shrewd acquisitions of players who struggled in 2015 or had perhaps fallen out of favor with their former club. Making the start even more impressive was a five-game losing streak the opening week of the season that did its part to create the perception that these were going to be the same old Mariners. While Cano's been the offensive star, Seattle's rotation has — as expected — been one of the top starting... Читать дальше...

First-round draft pick Laquon Treadwell signed his rookie contract with the Vikings today, according to his agency, Impact Sports Management. What I Think Paul Ryan Is Trying to Do

The Huffington Post

I just got an email from the DCCC under the subject heading "Ryan embraces Trump."

That might be a politically useful way to characterize the situation -- it's useful, I suppose, to show how craven the Republicans are, and especially to tie Donald Trump around the neck of Paul Ryan, who is worth the Democrats' damaging if they can -- but I think it misses the reality of what Ryan did today.
