Housing transferred inmates could bring Elkhart County $2M
(AP) — Officials in northern Indiana say Elkhart County could bring in about $2 million a year in revenue for housing more inmates from the overcrowded Marion County Jail in Indianapolis. Elkhart County Sheriff Brad Rogers says the jail in Indianapolis is under a federal mandate to reduce its inmate population and will be transferring as many as 50 detainees to Elkhart County as soon as Tuesday.
