Household spending also fell less than expected in April and job availability hit a 24-year high, a relief for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who is expected to delay a scheduled sales tax hike next year to avoid dealing a hammer blow to a fragile economic recovery.

Customs dept to identify its land in state, digitize records

Customs and Central Excise Department plans to identify all of its property across the state, said Rajiv Bhushan Tiwari, chief commissioner, Bengaluru zone, on Monday. Highlighting the need to identify the land owned by the department, he pointed out that most of the properties were registered years ago and had to be properly documented.
