US colleges look beyond China for new foreign students

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

BOSTON — As a surge of students from China begins to level off, many U.S. colleges are expanding recruiting efforts in the Middle East, South Asia and Latin America in part to boost budgets that have come to rely on tuition dollars from international students. The number of Chinese students at U.S. colleges rose from 62,000 a decade ago to 328,000 last year, and they still make up 31 percent of all international students in the U.S., but growth is slowing. Most schools don’t offer scholarships for international students... Читать дальше...

Review: Steinfeld’s angst shines in ‘The Edge of Seventeen’

TheRepublic.com

When’s the last time you saw a truly fresh talent on screen? Someone so charismatic that you couldn’t wait to find out who they are, what they’ve done before and why you’ve never noticed? That’s what it feels like to watch Hayden Szeto as the sweetly dorky love interest to Hailee Steinfeld’s lead in “The Edge of Seventeen ,” a charmingly sardonic coming-of-age story from the promising writer-director Kelly Fremon Craig in her feature debut.

Review: Steinfeld's angst shines in 'The Edge of Seventeen'

«Seattle Post-Intelligencer» (seattlepi.com)

From the first shot of a grungy maroon sedan door splattered with mud screeching to a halt outside of a high school where our heroine Nadine (Steinfeld) informs her teacher (a terrific Woody Harrelson) that she plans to kill herself, it's clear that this is no sanitized high school nostalgia trip. There is, of course, the perpetual problem in the Hollywood treatment of high school outcast stories whereby we're asked to believe that beautiful movie stars are capable of being invisible, but "The Edge... «SFGate» (sfgate.com)

Astronaut Compares Accuracy to ‘The Martian,’ ‘Interstellar’ John Grunsfeld has spent nearly two months in outer space, which makes him pretty darn qualified to break down “Armageddon,” we’d say. The debut officially kicks off Nat Geo’s rebrand, which is encased in spirit by new tagline, “Further,” and aims to increase the cable network’s premium content count.
