Ottawa’s Craig Anderson shuts out Rangers

0

Craig Anderson stopped 35 shots for his third shutout this season and the Ottawa Senators snapped a two-game skid with a 3-0 win over the visiting New York Rangers on Sunday.

Bobby Ryan, Mike Hoffman and Jean-Gabriel Pageau each scored for Ottawa (23-20-6) and Anderson earned his 32nd career shutout.

The 18,940 on hand at Canadian Tire Centre were treated to a goaltending duel for much of the afternoon.

Leading 1-0 early in the third, the Senators got a little breathing room as Hoffman scored his team-leading 22nd to make it 2-0.

Hoffman used Ryan as a decoy on a 2-on-1 and beat Lundqvist glove side.

Pageau made it 3-0 with a shorthanded empty-net goal with just more than two minutes remaining.

Jared Cowen’s shot from inside the blue line hit the post and Ryan got his stick on the rebound to give Ottawa a 1-0 lead.

Jonathan Huberdeau had a goal and an assist as host Florida snapped Tampa Bay’s seven-game winning streak and extended its Atlantic Division lead over the second-place Lightning to five points.

Carl Soderberg and Gabriel Landeskog each scored a shorthanded goal and Semyon Varlamov made 42 saves for visiting Colorado.

Ducks 4, Red Wings 3:

Jordan Martinook scored 22 seconds into the third period to snap a tie and Shane Doan had a goal and an assist as host Arizona ended a four-game skid.
