Warriors aware of Spurs’ loaded second unit

The Spurs’ bench leads the NBA in eight categories, including scoring (41.8 points per game), assists (11.7) and field-goal percentage (50.1).

“It’s impressive,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said Sunday of the Spurs’ bench.

David West is expected to move into the starting lineup for Tim Duncan, who will miss Monday’s game against the Warriors with a sore knee.

Kerr and San Antonio head coach Gregg Popovich talked Thursday, a day before Kerr returned from nearly a four-month leave of absence to recover from a spinal-fluid leak, and exchanged texts before Kerr coached his first game of the season Friday.

In between practice and his usual post-practice shooting routine, Curry put on a No. 30 Carolina Panthers jersey and traded out his basketball shoes for a Carolina-colored, low-topped pair of sneakers.

First-round pick Kevon Looney was recalled to the big club after averaging eight points and 10 rebounds in five games with the NBA Development League team in Santa Cruz.

“Everything is slowly coming back, and I got in some running to get into game shape, too,” said Looney, who has averaged 18.3 minutes per game and hopes to have his minutes restriction lifted next month.
