60 Detroit teachers protest at court hearing on sick-outs
The governor and the school district's emergency manager should be put on trial, not teachers, according to Steve Conn, himself a teacher and an advocate.
Two schools closed Monday due to a high volume of teacher absences, said the district, which has about 100 public schools and 46,000 students.
In recent months, Detroit educators have stepped up efforts to protest Snyder's plans for the district, its ramshackle finances, dilapidated buildings, overcrowded classrooms and their low pay.
