Best and worst Super Bowl 50 commercials

Super Bowl 50 was a down year for commercials, but that doesn’t mean it was easy to fill this year’s best and worst lists. Best Super Bowl ads: Hard to go wrong with dachshunds dressed as hot dogs running in slow motion toward people dressed as ketchup and mustard. Initially I saw a large group on social media making fun of the ad, which featured an ultrasound of a fetus lunging at a chip. (I thought it was funny.) Either way, a big win for Doritos, which can live with a controversial image. Jeep “Portraits”: This year’s classiest advertisement, featuring photos of high-profile historical figures (from Aretha Franklin to The Terminator) and a few unknowns who have ties to owning or driving Jeeps. Nice bit of branding, amplified as viewers search online for more details about the Jeep celebrity connections. Worst Super Bowl ads: Recruit Mr. T or fallen boy band members for these commercials, not our greatest living actors. Dishonorable mention: NFL Super Bowl Babies; McDonald’s “Good Morning”; LG Liam Neeson ad.
