Broncos’ C.J. Anderson lives his dream

0

Anderson reached professional football’s summit Sunday, fittingly at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

Talk all you want about quarterback Peyton Manning and a smothering, relentless Denver defense.

[...] it’s also fair to suggest the Broncos would not have hoisted the Lombardi Trophy without one Cortrelle Javon Anderson, a bowling ball of a running back who just keeps plowing downfield.

Anderson accounted for more than half of his team’s offensive production in Sunday’s 24-10 victory over Carolina in Super Bowl 50.

Anderson put away the game by bulling his way into the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown run with 3:08 remaining.

Anderson, listed at 5-foot-8 and 224 pounds, became only the second Cal alum to score a Super Bowl touchdown, joining Seattle’s Marshawn Lynch.

The past three Super Bowl winners featured a running back who played for the Golden Bears, from Lynch and Shane Vereen (last year with New England) to Anderson.

Anderson was a solid player at Cal, but he started only two games in his two seasons with the Bears, and no NFL team drafted him.

“C.J. was about the whole offense tonight, aside from a few passes to Emmanuel Sanders,” wide receiver Demaryius Thomas said.
