Five takeaways from Cal’s 78-75 win at Washington

0

Washington would’ve completed its comeback had Huskies forward Matisse Thybulle made his two foul shots with 3.3 seconds remaining.

Though they escaped with the win, the Bears finished with 16 giveaways and 15 errant foul shots.

[...] bringing such quality defense on the road proved difficult.

[...] Thursday, that is.

The Bears held the Pac-12’s highest-scoring offense to 32.9 percent shooting, including 4-for-17 from three-point range.

The only three Huskies players to score in double digits — forward Marquese Chriss (17), and guards Dejounte Murray (14) and Andrew Andrews (18) — finished a combined 15-for-46 from the floor.

Brown, not known as a stellar free-throw shooter, converted eight of his 10 foul shots.

Part of the issue is that the Bears aren’t running many plays for the Oakland native, who is ambidextrous with a growing arsenal of low-post moves.

With five regular-season games left, the Bears are well positioned for their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2013.
