The Latest: Authorities don't believe man escaped fire

Chino police spokeswoman Tamrin Olden said authorities were trying to determine Wednesday if the man died inside the Santa Anita Ave. house but have not been able to get inside due to extensive fire damage.

Authorities say a man holed up inside a home after a San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy went there to serve an eviction notice exchanged gunfire with police before the house went up in flames.

A resident holed up inside a San Bernardino County house where an eviction notice was served, then fired several shots at a SWAT team before the structure went up in flames.

SWAT was called after the deputy serving the eviction heard a single gunshot shortly after 8 a.m. Neighbors tell KABC-TV that a short time later they heard multiple gunshots from inside the home on Santa Anita Avenue.
