Oakland Tech beats Dougherty Valley in NorCal tournament
The Oakland Tech boys basketball team didn’t finish off its Oakland Section playoffs very well following a stellar regular season.
[...] boy, did the Bulldogs put on a show late in Wednesday’s 68-49 first-round Division I Northern California tournament home win over Dougherty Valley-San Ramon.
Tech’s big three of junior guard Souley Boum (22 points), 6-foot-7 center Dejon Davis (180) and senior Will Campbell (15) led the way as the Bulldogs scored 29 points in the fourth quarter to win going away.
The Bulldogs (26-3), who lost two straight games in the section playoffs to champion McClymonds, advance to quarterfinal play Saturday at third-seed Monte Vista-Danville.
The exclamation point was an alley-oop pass from Boum to Davis, who threw down a dunk to go up 59-44 with 2:19 to go.
“Our defense propelled us by getting some deflections, loose balls and big-time rebounds that allowed us to get in transition,” Hart said.
Tech held Dougherty Valley (26-4) to 19 first-half points and one three-pointer all night.
At Merritt College, freshman Raymond Hawkins had 14 points and seven rebounds, Naseem Gaskin 12 points and Elijah Hardy eight points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists as the host and eighth-seed Dragons (15-14) rolled.
At Kezar Pavilion, Niamey Harris stole the ball and fed Levertis Stallings (14 points) for the game-winning layup as time expired. lifting sixth-seed Mission (27-6) over CCS champion Pacific Grove (23-5).
Pacific Grove led by five with 1:30 remaining, but back-to-back three-pointers by Harris and Frank Hall (13 points), gave Mission the lead.
Peninsula Athletic League South Most Valuable Player Greer Hoyem had 22 points and 14 rebounds leading the fourth-seeded Bears (26-4) to a home win over Washington (13-12), which got 16 points from Jessica Nakano, and 11 from Jessica Chin .
