Officials: noise triggered false quake near Napa
The U.S. Geological Survey said a false detection Thursday morning prompted a report of a magnitude 2.5 earthquake near Napa that did not occur.
The false detection was caused by noise in the area that was picked up by an automated system, according to Brad Aagaard, a seismologist with the geological survey. The event was removed from their earthquake reporting data after it was reviewed by the office, he said.
On Wednesday evening, a magnitude 3.0 earthquake struck near Livermore, they said. No damage was reported.
