Oakland’s Jack London Square sold to L.A. developer
Oakland’s Jack London Square, a waterfront complex of shops and offices that in recent years has shared in the city’s economic revival, has been purchased by a national developer.
The 12-acre site, which includes seven buildings and three development parcels, was purchased by CIM Group from a consortium of developers including Ellis Partners, Transbay Holdings and Divco West.
The original village-like cluster of shops and restaurants was replaced in the late 1980s by a more standard set of commercial buildings, with a Barnes & Noble bookstore as the main attraction.
The square’s fortunes have revived with the debut of several popular restaurants, including a combination beer garden and bowling alley in the former Barnes & Noble.
