Snowmobile strikes Iditarod dog teams

0

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A man on a snowmobile purposely drove into two dog teams competing in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race early Saturday, killing one dog and injuring at least three others, officials said.

Alaska State Troopers said Arnold Demoski of Nulato is being held on, among other charges, assault and reckless endangerment.

The snowmobile hit the side of Zirkle’s sled 5 miles out of Koyukuk, turned around multiple times and came back at her before driving off, Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said by email.

Race officials said King received medical attention in Nulato, but troopers quoted King as saying he was not injured.
