SF Opera creates Brian Asawa Memorial Fund

Asawa, who was living in Los Angeles at the time of his death, began his career — one that would find him in lead roles in major operas throughout the United States and Europe — in San Francisco, specifically with the Merola Opera Program.

The fund will go toward incoming Merola Opera Program participants, according to a statement from the opera, with “a particular preference given to countertenors.”
