Indianapolis police: Child, 2, dies after being shot

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis police say a 2-year-old child has died at a hospital after being shot.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release that officers were sent to the city's northwest side Wednesday night regarding a child shot. The release says officers found the child unresponsive with a single gunshot wound. Police say the child later died at a hospital.

According to police, detectives have been told that only the mother and child were at home the time of the shooting.

Police say detectives are conducting an investigation into circumstances leading up to the shooting.
