Worth Seeing: Which movies to see this weekend, May 13

Juliette Binoche is remarkable and Lou de Laage is pretty brilliant, too, in this story of the mother and fiancee of a newly dead man, meeting at a Sicilian villa.

The young women doesn’t know he’s dead, and the older woman won’t tell her.

The movie features strong performances from Ice Cube and Regina Hall as the barbershop’s owners and a funny reprise of Eddie, the ancient, opinionated barber played by Cedric the Entertainer.

The Meddler: A charming comedy from writer-director Lorene Scafaria, this film stars Susan Sarandon as a recent widow who has moved to Los Angeles (from Brooklyn) to be close to her daughter (Rose Byrne).

Sing Street: A group of troubled Dublin schoolkids form a rock band in 1985 in this combination of wish fulfillment and nostalgia from John Carney.

Much of the material is familiar — economic hard times, a nasty school full of bullies — but in the end it’s a charming portrayal of the saving powers of young love and rock ’n’ roll.
