Peter Sagan wins 1st stage of Amgen Tour of California

SAN DIEGO — World champion Peter Sagan unleashed his powerful sprint at the last possible moment, overcoming Wouter Wippert and Dylan Groenewegen to win the 109-mile first stage of the Amgen Tour of California on Sunday.

The Slovakian rider, the 2015 Amgen titlist, was quiet in the peloton all day before freelancing his way through the field to win his record-extending 14th stage by a half-tire length.
