Wavy Gravy turns 80 with all-day festival
Wavy Gravy’s 80th Birthday is an all-afternoon festival only slightly smaller than Woodstock, where Wavy, real name Hugh Romney, became famous for offering breakfast in bed for 500,000.
Joining in the festivities are Steve Earle, John Popper, the Wonder Mountain String Band, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Achilles Wheel, Dead Winter Carpenters, Grateful Bluegrass Boys plus other acts and surprise guests, all while the honoree wanders about in his derby hat with frizzy white side hair, blowing bubbles.
The two-stage music and art fair is a benefit for the Seva Foundation, a Berkeley nonprofit that Wavy co-founded that works to restore and preserve sight among people in peril.
