Savannah Rennie, Cal volleyball player, undergoes liver transplant
Cal volleyball player Savannah Rennie has undergone a successful liver transplant, according to her mother.
Savannah Rennie, a sophomore outside hitter from San Diego, was diagnosed in September with congenital hepatic fibrosis with portal hypertension, a disease of the liver most commonly found in infants and the elderly.
Monday morning, while in the Chicago area to watch Cal baseball play Northwestern, Savannah learned she had found a donor match.
If all goes well, she will return to Berkeley in August to become the first liver transplant recipient to play Division I women’s volleyball.
Per NCAA rules, the name, image and likeness of a student-athlete can be used to help raise money for medical emergencies.
