East Bay teen dies after collapsing during football drills

A 15-year-old high school student in Alameda collapsed during preseason football conditioning drills Tuesday and later died, officials said Wednesday.

The Encinal High School student collapsed around 6 p.m. on the football field and was later pronounced dead at Highland Hospital, said Susan Davis, a spokeswoman for the Alameda Unified School District.

The school will be providing counseling throughout the week for students and staff.
