Johnny Cueto leads Giants to 7th straight win
The Giants won their seventh straight game Wednesday night by beating the Padres 2-1, and Johnny Cueto followed Madison Bumgarner’s complete game Tuesday with one of his own.
“I’m happy to do the same thing,” said Cueto, who spun a four-hitter and received all the support he needed from Hunter Pence’s two-run homer.
Six of the consecutive wins have come on their two-city trip, and if they beat the Padres in Thursday’s capper, they’d complete a seven-game road sweep.
Cueto’s lone blemish came in the second inning on Alexei Ramirez’s two-out single that scored Brett Wallace, who had doubled to open the inning.
Cueto helped himself with one of the evening’s finest defensive plays, taking an infield hit away from Matt Kemp.
Pence’s homer came off Drew Pomeranz’s elevated 0-2 fastball in the fourth inning.
Asked about completing the road sweep with a win Thursday, Pence said, You don’t think anything that’s happened in the past, other than what it taught us.
Stick to the process of being ready to compete and be in the right position with the right approach to find a way to win a ballgame.
