A’s place All-Star Sonny Gray on their crammed DL
Throughout his poor start to the 2016 season, Sonny Gray and the A’s have insisted that the team ace is healthy, but after yet another disappointing outing on Friday, Oakland placed Gray on the disabled list Sunday with a strained right trapezius muscle.
The A’s now have 13 men on the DL, including their top starter and their best all-around player, outfielder Josh Reddick (broken thumb).
Gray, an All-Star last season who finished third in the Cy Young voting, is 3-5 with a 6.19 ERA, the third highest mark in the American League.
Mengden is shooting through the system and since moving up to Triple-A Nashville, he has allowed two earned runs in 27 innings.
