Teal trek: Sharks fans descend on Pittsburgh
Sharks fans descend on Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH — When Anthony Calamita was 13, he and his best friend flipped a coin to figure out which NHL expansion team they would follow, the Lightning or the Sharks.
[...] in the shadow of the Rangers and Devils, we thought it was a great time with expansion to learn about the game, start fresh.
The trip wasn’t a long one for the Calamitas, but it was for many of the hundreds of Sharks fans in attendance at Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals at Consol Energy Center.
“You won’t believe what we’re doing, catching a plane at midnight to get back at 1 a.m., so he can make a 7 a.m. final,” said Giovanni Coglitore, 48, who is the chief technology officer for Sony.
“He’s been to every single Sharks game,” said Ashley Finatti, whose father-in-law, Lino, also made the trip and who has had season tickets for 24 years.
Penguins fan Bob Dorsch, a former San Jose resident and Sharks season-ticket holder, still watches San Jose’s games.
While waiting in line to enter the building, he spotted Carter and asked, Is that the baby who’s on TV?’
Ticket prices are more reasonable on the secondary market.
Fans said though seats in the upper reaches in San Jose are $800 or more, they’re $350 at Consol Energy Center.
Little Jack Calamita was charming Penguins fans in his Sharks jersey.
