A’s trade Chris Coghlan to Cubs, place Rich Hill on DL
CINCINNATI — Chris Coghlan was billed as a Ben Zobrist type by the A’s when they acquired him from the Cubs in February.
Except he hit .146.
The A’s shipped Coghlan back to the Cubs on Thursday after he showed versatility but little production.
In return, the A’s received Arismendy Alcantara, 24, who’s also versatile, and sent him to Triple-A Nashville.
A switch hitter, Alcantara was playing second base with Triple-A Iowa and hitting .264 with five homers and 21 RBIs.
In February, the A’s sent pitcher Aaron Brooks to the Cubs for Coghlan, who was supposed to be a key part of the revamped A’s.
Coghlan had a .341 on-base percentage last year.
Rich Hill was placed on the disabled list with a strained left groin, a day after he had a setback in a bullpen session in Milwaukee, aggravating the groin injury on one of his final pitches.
Hill, 36, has been mentioned often in trade rumors.
In his final start of the month, he pulled his groin in the seventh inning and exited the game.
The DL stint is retroactive to May 30.

The A’s rotation is 11-23 with a 6.51 ERA over 42 games since April 23 — 5-22 with a 7.70 ERA in games not started by Rich Hill, who went 6-1 with a 1.80 ERA in the stretch.
