Giants take Vanderbilt OF Bryan Reynolds with first draft pick
With their only pick on the first day of the MLB draft, the Giants took Vanderbilt outfielder Bryan Reynolds in the second round (59th overall).
Reynolds, 21, is a switch hitter ranked the No. 23 prospect by MLB.com and No. 31 by Baseball America.
John Barr, San Francisco’s assistant general manager and director of scouting, said that the team envisions him as a versatile center fielder who can hit anywhere in the top three of the order.
San Francisco forfeited its first-round pick when it signed Jeff Samardzija, who was given a qualifying offer by the Chicago White Sox.
The Giants have agreed to minor-league deals with outfielder Chris Denorfia and first baseman/outfielder Travis Ishikawa.
Denorfia, 35, hasn’t played since opting out of a minor-league contract with the Yankees on March 27.
In 103 games with the Cubs last season, he hit .269 with 18 RBIs, three home runs and 18 runs.
Ishikawa, 32, was released by the White Sox last month after hitting .201 in 40 games with Triple-A Charlotte.
Ishikawa is best known for hitting the walk-off homer against the Cardinals that put the Giants in the 2014 World Series.
The Giants acquired infielder Shawon Dunston Jr. from the Cubs for cash considerations.
Injuries have dogged Dunston Jr., who was an 11th-round pick in 2011 from San Jose’s Valley Christian High School.
Dunston Jr.’s father, former Giants shortstop Shawon Dunston, is on San Francisco’s coaching staff and contributes on the video-replay team.

The Dodgers adjusted their rotation Wednesday, scheduling 19-year-old rookie Julio Urias to start Sunday night at AT&T Park.
