Brent Burns’ goal ends drought 64 seconds into Game 5
PITTSBURGH — Brent Burns finally can exhale.
San Jose’s offensive leader from the blue line all season — and through the first three rounds of the playoffs — went without a goal through the first four games of the Stanley Cup Finals.
The drought ended 64 seconds into Thursday’s Game 5.
Burns beat Pittsburgh rookie goalie Matt Murray with a pinpoint wrist shot from the bottom of the left circle to give San Jose its first lead of the series.
“That was big,” defense partner Paul Martin said. “He’s one of our key guys. To get him going, get him on the board early — he loosens up and plays a different type of game.
