Khris Davis’ 18th homer gives A’s win over Angels
Khris Davis made up for all that, hitting his second homer in two days, a three-run shot in the eighth inning that gave Oakland a 7-4 victory at Angel Stadium.
Davis, who also made a superb diving catch in the sixth inning, has 18 homers and 49 RBIs in the A’s 73 games.
Oakland, which moved past the Angels into fourth place, got a first-inning homer from Vogt that drew a failed replay challenge from the Angels, who thought the ball hit below the yellow line in center.
Oakland tied the score in the fifth with a rally that started when Yonder Alonso drew a leadoff walk.
Semien knocked a ground-rule double into the corner in right, Max Muncy hit a bouncer to second, scoring Alonso, and Burns added a sacrifice fly — good situational hitting by the A’s.
Surkamp gave up another unearned run in the fourth, thanks to a throwing error by shortstop Semien on Shane Robinson’s grounder.
Robinson scored when Trout rapped a two-out, two-strike single off reliever Fernando Rodriguez.
The A’s made three errors in all; Vogt made a throwing error in the seventh.
