Naka Dance Theater presents ‘Race’ at the Rotunda
Naka Dance Theater, the latest troupe to perform in San Francisco City Hall’s Rotunda as part of the Dancers’ Group and World Arts West presentations, has the Olympics on its mind.
The company will perform a site-specific piece called “Race,” which honors the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City where track stars Tommie Smith and John Carlos gave the raised-fist salute on the medal stand after winning the gold and bronze medals, respectively, in the 200 meters.
The dance also looks at other Olympiads, on the same day of the Opening Ceremony of this year’s Rio Games.
