Preseason vital for QBs; author speaks to 49ers

Preseason games are often deemed meaningless, but they will be vital when it comes to determining who will start at quarterback for the 49ers in Week 1.

“They’re not going to get hit in any of our training sessions and there’s no quarterback in the NFL, or even college, that probably gets hit in practice,” Kelly said.

Gordon, whose clients include the Atlanta Falcons, wrote You Win In The Locker Room First, a book he authored with former Falcons coach Mike Smith.

Quarterback Thad Lewis, who was with Kelly in Philadelphia last year, said he’s enjoyed listening to the speakers Kelly has brought in to address his team.

Since he was hired, safety Eric Reid said Kelly has had doctors and Marines speak to the 49ers about health and fitness.
