Megan Rapinoe kneels during national anthem: ‘nod’ to Kaepernick

U.S. women’s national-team member Megan Rapinoe knelt during the national anthem Sunday night before the Seattle Reign’s game against the Chicago Red Stars “in a little nod” to 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Kaepernick’s choice to not stand for the anthem to protest racial injustice and minority oppression came to public notice when he remained seated on the bench before a preseason game against Green Bay.

Thomas Mueller helped Germany launch a confident start to its World Cup title defense with a 3-0 win at Norway.

Mueller scored two goals and set up another for Bayern Munich teammate Joshua Kimmich in the world champions’ Group C qualifier.

In Group C, Northern Ireland held the Czech Republic to a goalless draw in Prague.
