Former De La Salle High School athlete hurt at Nevada frat house
A former baseball player at a Concord high school suffered a critical head injury and may never regain consciousness after falling down a flight of stairs at a college fraternity house in Nevada, officials and family friends said.
Ryan Abele, 18, a recent graduate of De La Salle High School, was injured Sunday morning at Sigma Nu fraternity house on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno, according to officials.
“As is routine during an investigation, the University of Nevada, Reno has temporarily withdrawn recognition of the Sigma Nu chapter and the fraternity is currently not allowed to operate as an organization on campus,” school officials said in a statement.
Family friends have set up an online GoFundMe page to raise money for the family’s medical expenses, saying Abele hit his head after falling down a flight of stairs.
In addition to the GoFundMe campaign, Erikka Reisinger, a longtime family friend, began selling #RyanStrong T-shirts online to raise money for the family.
