San Jose police seek driver who tried to ram patrol car
San Jose police are looking for a driver who officers fired shots at early Tuesday as he tried to intentionally ram an occupied patrol car with a stolen SUV, officials said.
The incident began about midnight, when three San Jose officers heard reports of a stolen vehicle near their patrol area in the 400 block of Wooster Avenue, according to Sgt. Enrique Garcia, a police department spokesman.
The driver, who was the only person in the car, went into a cul-de-sac then drove head on into the patrol car as the officer tried to make a traffic stop, officials said.
All of the officers involved were placed on paid administrative leave.
The police department's homicide unit, which routinely investigates officer-involved shooting, is conducting the investigation.
San Jose Police Department's Internal Affairs Unit, the City Attorney’s Office, and the Office of the Independent Police Auditor is monitoring the case.
