Fake news hurts Google, Facebook; PayPal boycott woes

Google’s search engine came under fire Monday for highlighting an inaccurate story from the pro-Donald Trump site 70news claiming that he won the popular vote in last week’s election; a link to the site appeared at or near the top of Google’s influential rankings of relevant news stories for searches on the final election results.

Take San Jose’s PayPal, which got flack and threats of boycotts from conservatives in April — even getting a story on Breitbart — because it veered away from expanding to North Carolina because of a state law that targeted gays.
