Dan Rather heads panel on Japan’s Olympic legacy

0

Dan Rather was ascending to national prominence in 1964 with CBS on the coattails of his reporting of John F. Kennedy’s assassination, and he’s returning to that year to pick up on a story he missed covering: the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, arguably the most important Olympic Games for a host country in terms of its cultural impact.

[...] rebuilding from World War II and a decade removed from American occupation, Japan used the 1964 Games as its coming-out party, building up to the event with a massive investment in infrastructure and modernization that would spur Japan to economic power.
