X celebrates 40th year with Independent residency

The group is marking the occasion with another round of its annual holiday shows, playing four nights in four cities covering four decades.

In San Francisco, X — which also includes vocalist Exene Cervenka, bassist John Doe and drummer DJ Bonebrake — is scheduled to hold court at the Independent from Thursday, Dec. 9, through Sunday, Dec. 11, performing a set that leans heavily on its first two studio albums, “Los Angeles” and “Wild Gift,” with a couple of surprises too.
