De La Salle falls in state championship game
SACRAMENTO — When De La Salle junior running back Kairee Robinson busted through the line for a 60-yard touchdown run on the game’s third play, the Spartans’ sideline erupted Saturday night.
The quite familiar De La Salle victory train appeared off to a roaring start.
St. John Bosco-Bellflower, with a line that averages more than 300 pounds, and speedy skill players led by Re-Al Mitchell, answered Robinson’s touchdown almost immediately.

When Demetrious Flowers scored his third TD on a 2-yard run with 9:10 remaining, St. John Bosco, the nation’s fifth ranked team, had 49 points and were on their way to a second title-game win over De La Salle in four years.
The Spartans tried a trick play on the ensuing kickoff, but a cross-field lateral was picked off by Eli DeRoon.
On the next play, Terrance Beasley went untouched over the left side 6 yards for the touchdown.
Undaunted, De La Salle came right back, going 68 yards on seven plays, capped by Robinson’s second TD run, a 1-yarder up the middle.
Paved by a line that averages 306 pounds, the Braves scored on their next two possessions, combining on 21 plays for 117 yards.
