Hazing led to suicide of conscript soldier; case was sent to court
ArmInfo. The case of driving soldier Zhora Karapetyan to suicide through negligence by two of his
comrades-in-arms has been sent to court, reports the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
The Investigative Committee noted that on August 10, at around 6:50
p.m., conscript serviceman Zhora Karapetyan, while at a combat post,
attempted suicide using another serviceman's machine gun.
Immediately after the incident, he was taken to the hospital with a
gunshot wound to the head, where, however, he died the next day, at
about 4:30 a.m..
According to factual data obtained during the investigation, the
serviceman committed suicide due to behavior typical of hazing by his
comrades-in-arms.
Based on the facts obtained, two of his comrades-in-arms were charged
under the 1st and 3rd points of the 2nd part of Article 522 of the
Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. Detention was chosen as a
preventive measure against them.
The preliminary investigation has been completed, the case papers,
along with the indictment, have been sent to the court.
