Many folks in the baseball ops department who provide input to the decision makers believe Greinke would be a nice fit because of his savvy, IQ and stuff that could hold up through his late 30s.
The Giants prefer a shorter-term deal for an elite starter, and Greinke could settle for five years - that way, his and Price’s contracts would conclude when they’re 37.
The highest AAVs for Giants pitchers have been $22.5 million for Matt Cain, $20.25 million for Tim Lincecum and $18 million for Barry Zito.
