This week at Golden Gate Fields
Allaboutaction, who won his debut by 9 lengths in a 6-furlong maiden event Oct. 31, stretches out to a mile against five other 2-year-olds in the Gold Rush Stakes.
Allaboutaction drew the No. 1 post and will have Russell Baze in the saddle after being ridden by David C. Lopez in his debut.
Outside of Allaboutaction will be Marqula, Algenon, Gold Rush Dancer, Mana Strike and Mad Bum.
Algenon, Gold Rush Dancer and Marqula finished 2-3-4 behind victorious filly Code Warrior in the 6-furlong Golden Nugget Stakes on Nov. 7.
Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer is confident Allaboutaction, a son of Candy Ride, will handle the distance after just one sprint.
Golden Gate Fields-based trainer Ed Moger’s first Grade 1 victory came most unexpectedly in Stormy Lucy’s 65-to-1 upset in the $302,250 Matriarch Stakes on Sunday at Del Mar.
Stormy Lucy hadn’t finished better than third in her previous eight starts, her best performances have come going longer than the Matriarch’s 1 mile and she wouldn’t even have run if the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf hadn’t been oversubscribed.
