Spain’s National Court has begun trying 35 members of three outlawed Basque separatist political groups accused of being members of the armed group ETA.

In the trial that started Thursday, the prosecution accused the 35 of belonging to three parties that acted under ETA’s orders and represented a political and financial front for the group in the northern Basque region.

The accused support Basque separatism but deny they were part of ETA, which killed 829 people during a four-decade campaign for an independent Basque homeland.

A National Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesman said a landslide Thursday in Bengkulu province buried 18 people.
