Guatemalan prosecutors have presented a formal accusation against former President Otto Perez Molina, who resigned this year amid a sprawling corruption scandal.

Prosecutor Francisco Sandoval says Perez Molina is suspected of illicit association, customs fraud and bribery.

Perez Molina resigned as president Sept. 4 after prosecutors and a U.N. commission investigating corruption in Guatemala alleged that he was part of a multimillion-dollar graft ring.

Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott on Wednesday defended his comments suggesting that Western culture is superior to that of Islam and called for U.S.-led assistance in defeating the Islamic State group.

In a Sydney Daily Telegraph opinion piece published earlier in the day, Abbott, a staunch Catholic and former student priest, wrote of a need to “modernize” Islam, saying it propagates a culture that is inferior to that of the West.

Critics associated his comments with those of U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who has proposed a controversial ban on all Muslim visitors to the U.S., with the exception of foreign Muslim leaders.

Hundreds of cab drivers clogged a number of major roads in downtown Toronto for several hours as they protested against Uber, calling on the city to enforce bylaws against the private ride-hailing service.

The taxi industry says its business has dropped with the arrival of the lower-priced competitor.

The city is working on rules to introduce regulations for services like Uber, but cab drivers say current bylaws mean some Uber services are operating illegally.

The lawsuit alleges that cleric Fethullah Gulen orchestrated human rights abuses from his residence in Pennsylvania against three men in Turkey.

The Turkish government claims Gulen has been running a parallel state by getting his followers into key positions in state institutions, including the police and judiciary.

Seven more people were killed in Burundi’s capital of Bujumbura in violence associated with turmoil over President Pierre Nkurunziza’s extension of his term in office, witnesses said Wednesday.

The international community has warned that the central African country could slide into chaos if the killings continue.

Men in police uniforms pulled five people from their houses and shot them dead Wednesday morning, resident Salima Bukuru said.
