Michael Crabtree signs contract extension with Raiders
Michael Crabtree has had a prove-it type of season, and on Wednesday, the Raiders did their part, showing the former 49ers receiver that they did not want him to test the free-agent market in the offseason.
Crabtree has a team-high 66 receptions and seven touchdowns and is second to rookie Amari Cooper with 760 yards.
“It may not mean what it did at one time in terms of the number of guys that are able to make that accomplishment, but it’s still a sizable chunk of real estate that you’re collecting over a season,” head coach Jack Del Rio said.
In extending Crabtree, the Raiders have assured that the nucleus of their resurgent passing game remains with the team for the foreseeable future.
People close to Crabtree said he was looking forward to going back on the market and being pursued this go-around, but the Raiders made it worth his while to forgo that.
Defensive end Khalil Mack missed Wednesday’s practice with a sore knee.
