Jennifer Gish: Bond between UAlbany's Shereehsa Richards and her mother knows no bounds

The plan was to have Sherene Campbell in the stands for senior night at the University at Albany, where her daughter, Shereesha Richards, has set the school's all-time basketball scoring record among men and women and where she started her path toward the WNBA, which is projected to be a sure next step.

[...] after having her request for a visa denied by Jamaica, Campbell is still in their home country, trying to get a second shot at a visa that would at least allow her a chance to see Richards graduate in a couple months with a degree in sociology.

Campbell, whose voice rose above any crowd during Richards' track meets and netball games on the island, never has seen Richards play basketball in person.

She rushed around these last few weeks getting some supporting paperwork together to prove that Richards is an athlete here and that her mother wanted to visit to see her play, and eventually, graduate.

[...] while she wishes her mother were there for her last regular-season game, Richards remains focused, scoring 41 points earlier this week against UMass Lowell, and looking toward a win against Hartford on Sunday, the upcoming America East Tournament and a chance to return to the NCAA Tournament once again.
