The companies said they aim to work together on cyber defenses and other “critical [defense] systems” to strengthen Europe’s defense industrial base.
The ITN phase is expected to deliver, for the first time, a full breakdown of requirements and costs for industry for the estimated $1.3 billion program.
“We don’t have a lot of cash under the sofa cushions and if we don’t get a budget, and we don’t get a supplemental, we’re going to probably have to cancel some things,” Army Secretary Christine Wormuth said today.
“We need a budget to be able to continue to fund this,” said Space Development Agency Director Derek Tournear. “We always assume there will be a continuing resolution for a few months, but not six to 12.”
The service wants to produce up to 500 rounds per year and field an early version in fiscal year 2027.
“Foreign firms that are direct beneficiaries of lucrative Saudi government contracts will most likely be the first to relocate. […] Firms who are invested in the Saudi market but do not have direct government dealings will likely try to bide themselves more time,” one expert said.
The $600 million contract calls for “advanced protection, fighting capabilities and a sensors suit.”
