Despite all three US V-22 variants flying, they remain under safety restrictions, according to service acquisition officials.
“So this is kind of walking us back towards this model that we had during the Cold War, where we know each other, we train together, we’re building the team in peacetime and in preparation for deployment,” a senior Air Force official said.
The US invitation is significant as it reflects the Pentagon’s desire to more tightly tie its allies into its efforts to deter, and if it comes to it, defend against hostile Chinese and Russian activities
“We’re working towards that end, and we have some solutions that I can’t go into, but we are going to get after finding more cost-effective ways to address those lower-end threats,” said Rear Adm. Fred Pyle, director of surface warfare at the US Navy.
“The choice to open an ammunition facility in Indonesia reflects the [United Arab Emirate’s] steady progress in climbing the so-called ‘ladder of production’ in the defense industry,” analyst Leonardo Jacopo Maria Mazzucco told Breaking Defense.
“As the Kuwaitis work to modernize their military, Ankara eyes the lion’s share of Kuwait’s defense procurements,” analyst Ali Bakir told Breaking Defense. “Turkey is willing to offer a range of its modern, cost-effective and highly capable weapons…”
